Louisiana Museum and Frederiksborg Castle!

Nothing like the last two days in Denmark to visit two of the most popular tourist destinations! I was going through my Copenhagen "must see" list and realized that while I have seen most of the top tourist destinations, I needed to go to Louisiana and Frederiksborg.

On Thursday, I met Gabrielle out at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. I had heard great things about Louisiana and knew that I needed to make the trek before I headed home. The museum was interesting to say the least. The main exhibition is by Yayoi Kusama. I'm not really sure what else to say, so I'll let the pictures do the explaining.

Thursday night was our last dinner out in Borup. We ate my very favorite meatballs, potatoes, and parsley sauce and sat around chatting about our experiences this semester. I headed back into the city that night to go out and spend the night with Sally one last time.

Friday morning, I woke up and headed to Frederiksborg Castle. The castle was built in the 17th century as a royal residence for King Christian IV. The castle was absolutely beautiful and I truly enjoyed wandering around on my own. I wanted to walk through the gardens but of course it was raining.

(17th century Bible!)

I was so happy that the sun finally came out and that I was able to take some pictures of the castle in its full beauty. I absolutely love the architecture of the Danish castles with the beautiful brick and copper roofs. I will miss seeing the gorgeous green copper that fills the Copenhagen skyline.

On the first floor of the castle, there was a really cool exhibition on the photography of Steve McCurry. It was really cool to read about his work and the photographs were absolutely beautiful.

Tomorrow morning I head home. I'm so happy that I was able to keep up with this blog to document all of my adventures. I have a few posts in the workings about my favorite restaurants in Copenhagen and some things I've learned while being abroad, so stay tuned for those! I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who actually read my blog this semester. I have had so much fun writing and keeping track of all of my experiences.

Last Week in Copenhagen!

I'm sitting here writing this post with my things strewn across my room in an attempt at packing and two days left in Copenhagen. This past week and weekend I tried to make the most of my last few days by hitting up some of the popular tourist spots. The Christmas Markets here are absolutely incredible. I've walked through them more times than I can count and become more and more obsessed every time I see the twinkling lights and Christmas trees.

On Saturday, I met up with Chidinma, a friend from my summer in Mount Vernon, and we grabbed lunch at Bar Burrito before heading to the Design Museum Denmark. I've heard so many great things about the museum and they offer free admittance for students! The museum was really cool. They had an entire exhibit on the evolution on Danish fashion! I loved it. They also had another exhibit on different Danish chairs. Scandinavian design is so unique and it was super interesting to learn about. For dinner, I met up with Sally and her roommate for dinner and then a night in the city. Our night out got cut quite short because I realized all of the trains to Borup were cancelled after midnight.

Sunday morning I slept in to catch up on sleep and then started packing. I've accumulated quite a lot of stuff since being here, so I have to really strategize how to arranged my suit cases. Sunday night I headed into the city to see the Danish Royal Ballet's performance of the Nutcracker! It was incredible. I absolutely love the Nutcracker and had so much fun watching the Danish Royal Ballet. The Royal Theater is incredible even from the third level of the balcony! The Danish people love Christmas more than I do, so it was such a great experience to get to celebrate with them.

Monday and Tuesday I just studied because I had a final Wednesday morning. After the final, we headed to St. Peter's for one last cinnamon roll of the semester. The Wednesday cinnamon rolls are one thing that I will definitely miss. The rest of the weekend will be spent packing and hanging out before my 19 hour adventure home on Saturday!

Playing Tour Guide for the Day!

This weekend, Megan and Katie made the trek from Valencia and Maastricht to visit Copenhagen! I was so excited to show them around on Friday. Megan got in Thursday night, so she got to spend the night at my house in Borup and then head to class with me early Friday morning! After my class on Friday morning, we grabbed a delicious brunch at CafÄ— Paludan and then wandered through Christianshavn before meeting up with Katie.

Our sightseeing adventure began in Nyhavn. It is the picture that people think of when they think of Copenhagen, so I knew that it had to be our first stop. While I've been to all of the tourist stops multiple times, this was the first time I've brought my camera along so it was really fun to act like a tourist and take pictures! After Nyhavn, we walked along the canal to see the Opera House and then Amalienborg Palace and Frederiks Kirke which is often called the Marble Church.  We were lucky enough to catch the end of the changing of the guard! On our way back to the center of the city, we walked by Rosenborg Castle and then stopped at the American Pie Company for a snack! I got the chocolate and peanut butter pie and it was absolutely delicious.

After our stop at American Pie Company, we decided to wander through all of the Christmas Markets that I've discovered so far. It seems like in every square of free space they've set up a Christmas Market. As someone who loves Christmas, I absolutely love all of the Christmas cheer in this city! I need to stop walking through the markets because I've bought something every time. After the markets, we walked through Tivoli since its all decorated for Christmas with market stalls as well.

For dinner, we headed to Paper Island to meet up with some other Richmond kids. Paper Island is such a unique place, so I love bringing visitors each time they come! I absolutely loved showing Megan and Katie around Copenhagen and am so happy that they were able to come and visit!

Love,
