Monday morning we woke up early and headed to the Max Planck Institute for a tour and a few lectures. The institute is really cool because it is where both Alzheimer's Disease and Schizophrenia were first identified and defined!
We then headed to the Olympiapark München where the 1972 olympics were held. We toured the stadium, swimming hall, and olympic hall where all of the events took place. It was really interesting to learn about all of the different ways they worked to make this games completely different than the games Hitler hosted in 1936. For dinner that night we headed to a traditional brewery and had a full German meal! It was absolutely delicious.

Tuesday morning, we woke up bright and early to head the the Munich Center for Neurosciences and the Brain for two lectures on depressants and antidepressants. We then went to the market by Marienplatz for lunch before going to the Deutches Museum which is advertised as 10 miles of science! It was the perfect place to send a bunch of neuroscience students! After the museum, we climbed to the top of the St. Peter's church t get a birds eye view of the city.
Wednesday morning we had some free time before our lectures, so we headed to the Nymphenburg Palace right outside of Munich. We were lucky to have some blue skies and sunshine and it was so much fun to walk through the gardens.
On Thursday, after a morning full of lectures at the Ludwig Maxamilian University of Munich, we headed to the BMW Museum and showroom. It was really cool to learn about the history of the company which actually started as a airplane engine factory and see all of the old cars and motorcycles. There was even an exhibit on the history of the Mini Cooper which was bought by BMW.
Friday morning we woke up early and went to the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site. We took a two hour guided tour of the grounds learning about the history of the camp. It was a very somber place but I am glad for the opportunity to have a first hand experience in learning about this part of history. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I think the pictures really speak for themselves.
Love,
